Jazz Mills, 26, new Mother and Singer in the band Cowboy and Indian
I saw Cowboy and Indian play a compelling set at 2nd Street Soundcheck; a block party with a purpose in downtown Austin. A friend in San Francisco tipped me off to their awesomeness, so, I too had a purpose for attending the event. I was able to chat with singer, Jazz Mills about her style and motherhood.
How long has Cowboy and Indian been playing music together? We’re pretty new, we’ve been together a little over two years now.
How would you describe your sound? Most people would say every time you come
to one of our sets, it’s different. Sometimes it’s super loud and rock, other times we do all acoustic, or I’ll throw in some gospel, or even a Disney cover; we just do whatever we want.
This is always the hardest question for me to answer, so I’m sorry to put you in the hot seat, but, how would describe your style? I’m kind of a poser, for sure. I’ll wear overalls, a tank top, my hair in braids and moccasins one day and the next I’ll be dressed in like a 50′s outfit . My closet looks more like a collection of costumes rather than just clothes.
What drives you when you get dressed? I just had a baby, she’s 6 months old. So, most of the time now, its whatever I don’t mind getting baby throw up on! Also, I just started a solo project and it’s very vintage pop. So I’m either in pajamas or a 60′s, Nancy Sinatra look.
Where do you shop? The majority of my stuff is from The Gypsy Den in Las Vegas. One of the owners is one of my best friends.
Other pieces are things that I just find. Once, I found some boots on the street in New York. I was wearing these shoes and my heel broke right before we were supposed to go on stage and then I spotted some shoes on the corner, and I just made them work.
I’m always looking for new beauty tips, got any to share? I wear baby lotion all over my body, usually the sleepy time formula, for some reason they all smell ridiculous. My makeup regiment changes with whatever I’m wearing that day. I might not wear any makeup at all and then the next day I’ll paint half my face with war paint.
Sounds like you’re an experimenter… For sure. A lot of times I totally fail and I don’t have time to change. I look ridiculous but I’m like whatever.
You just roll with it…Yeah
When you see someone well dressed what about their style do you find attractive? I like people that just own what they’re wearing. I see people and think that’s a hideous outfit or a hideous dress, or I hate the way they did their makeup, or they’re wearing too much makeup. But, I see their confidence and understand that that”s what they were going for, then I think they just look hot.
The common thread I see with anyone that has great personal style is confidence. Don’t try to regurgitate a popular trend, or what you see in magazines, blogs, or even this blog. Find a way to own your choices, your style evolution and just have fun.

If you get a chance to see them Live, you won’t regret it. So good.
Love this gal’s style! Thanks for sharing!
Even more awesome-r than her style is her. She is gracious, sweet and rock-n-roll!
